About this video...
Impressionists on the Seine captures the mystery, beauty, and moods of the River Seine and the life of Parisians who worked and played along its banks in the 1870s. Archival photos and over 45 masterpieces by celebrated French Impressionists Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, Berthe Morisot, and Gustave Caillebotte give viewers the experience of living in that period of intense creativity (1869-1881) when these Impressionists used the river as their inspiration to establish a new course for Western art. The program, taped in high definition television (HDTV), is based on the exhibition entitled "Impressionists on the Seine: A Celebration of Renoir's Luncheon of the Boating Party," which was held at The Phillips Collection (Washington, D.C.), America's first museum of modern art. A related exhibit, "Renoir's Portraits" has enjoyed tremendous success at the Art Institute of Chicago and Kimbell Art Musum in Ft. Worth, Texas |
