About this poster...
This panoramic view of Philadelphiašs downtown at twilight was taken by James Blakeway. Philadelphiašs history has many significant spots in United States history. The Quakers, Philadelphiašs first settlers arrived in 1681 and prospered in trade and commerce, making the city the leading port in the colonies. The first and second Continental Congresses convened here, and Philadelphia became the headquarters of the revolution. The city continued to be the main seat of the new federal government until 1800. Centered in the photograph is City Hall with its clock and statue of William Penn.
