This panoramic photograph of New Orleans was taken by James Blakeway. It features a spectacular twilight view of downtown New Orleans including the historic French Quarter in the right side of the photograph. At the far right is St. Louis Cathedral, the principal church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans. Completed in 1851, it is located at Jackson Square, the center of the French Quarter. The tranquil daytime streets of the French Quarter transform at night into a music-filled center of excitement. New Orleans has a reputation for its superb restaurants, antique shop, and jazz music, but it is best known for its annual Mardi Gras celebration.
