Diz was very quiet this evening...I went back to see his manager who told me that Diz' long time pianist, Walter Davis, had passed away today and it was not yet common knowledge. There was no one at the keyboard that night but Diz...who walked over and played it in between his trumpet solos. I'll never forget that vision as long as I live.
