Museum Of African-American Art
Los Angeles, CA-1990

This performance was in conjunction with an exhibit titled "Art Is Jazz-Jazz Is Art". Les is a Renaissance man-consumate pianist and singer-composer..photographer and painter. At this particular Museum Invitational, Les displayed some of his paintings along with Miles, Chuck Stewart, John Heard, myself and others...the focus was musicians who also were accomplished visual artists and artists whose theme was music and musicians. Each Sunday while the exhibit remained at the museum there was a free jazz concert. The Sunday that Les played I took this picture. When it appeared on the proof sheet it looked as if he was performing for all the wildlife in the rainforest and not in a concrete building in the bustle of L.A. Were it not for these surprises I'd never take another picture.
