Created from an antique art process, a Lithophane is a magnificently detailed porcelain carving that virtually comes alive when lit from behind!

The image is created by light shining through the different thicknesses of the procelain; the thicker areas appearing darker, and the thinner areas appearing lighter. The original masterwork is painstakingly hand carved in wax while backlit, then a plaster cast is taken of the carving. Fine porcelain paste is then pressed into the mold, after which the piece is high fired to achieve its extreme density and translucency.

Each Lithophane is a magical work of art which casts a gentle spell on all those who behold it! All of the procelain work is done by hand.
