Michelangelo
Born in 1475, Michelangelo's long and prolific life as a sculptor, painter, architect and poet made him the most celebrated artist of the Italian Renaissance.

In 1508, the great Pope Julius II called upon Michelangelo to embark upon a four year project; a fresco on the ceiling of the Vatican's Sistine Chapel. The Sistine Chapel ceiling, his greatest achievement, portrays the grand human drama of the creation, the fall and the redemption of man. After the completion of the project, Michelangelo lived for another fifty-two years, continually distinguishing himself as a versatile and ingenious artist.
