Lanting has been described by the editor of
"National Geographic" as "the finest
nature photographer working today."
In the past decade, he has been a professional nomad,
documenting wildlife and man's relationship with nature
around the world. His talents have often been
commissioned by "National Geographic" for
assignments such as a search for the last white rhinos in
Zaire and the first coverage of pygmy chimpanzees in thc
rain forest of the Congo Basin.
His work in Madagascar is chronicled in "Madagascar:
A World Out of Time" and his acclaimed coverage of
the Okavango Delta was publishcd in 1993 as
"Okavango: Africa's Last Eden". He has received
numerous international awards, including top honors in
1988 and 1989 from World Press Photo, and in 1991, the
prestigious title of BBC Wildlife Photographer of the
