Nancy Carlson |
| Though
Nancy is an accomplished children's book author and
illustrator, with over 35 books published, she has always
considered herself an artist/illustrator first and a
writer by chance. Nancy is one of the fortunate few who
knew in kindergarten what she wanted to do for a living.
"Make pictures." But more than that, Nancy
believes life is fun and should be fun for everyone,
especially children. As one looks at her work, you feel
this message and see how it provides a positive
counterpoint to much of what we are influenced by in
today's culture. Although Nancy's audience through her
books is mainly children, her artwork is known to inspire
children and adults alike. Nancy Carlson was born and raised in Edina, Minnesota. She graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a major in printmaking. Nancy has had numerous exhibitions and her work is held in many private and public collections. Among the many reviews and articles on Nancy and her work, her books have been reviewed on the Reading Rainbow television program. Her recognitions include the Children's Choice Award from the International Reading Association and Children's Book Council. Nancy's books are published in multiple languages and distributed internationally. Nancy lives in Bloomington, Minnesota with her husband, three children, two dogs and cat. They have a cabin on a lake in northern Wisconsin where they escape and play as often as work allows. Nancy is an avid outdoors person who enjoys running, hiking, biking, swimming and skiing. She is also a sought-after speaker, addressing school and library audiences across the country on the power of imagination.
